THINGS MOST NEEDFUL TO KNOW:

1.) tolkien100 is open to drabbles* inspired by the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. This includes Lord of the Rings (both the book and the movies), The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, the other volumes in the History of Middle-earth, Unfinished Tales, Tales from the Perilous Realm (aka A Tolkien Miscellany), containing "Smith of Wootton Major", "Farmer Giles of Ham", "Leaf by Niggle", and "The Adventures of Tom Bombadil", as well as Roverandom, "The Homecoming of Beorhtnoth", "Bilbo's Last Song", and any undeveloped fictional hints contained in the Letters.

* a drabble defined as "the action or process of drabbling for fish," according to the Oxford English Dictionary (2nd ed.) For our purposes, however, a drabble is a piece of writing that is 100 words in length, whether in prose or poetic form.

2.) Both het and slash are welcome here, as is genfic. However, because this community celebrates the fictional world, we do not accept RPS (Real Person Slash).

3.) All drabble posts must include a full header, including title, author name, work from which the drabble is taken, pairings (if applicable), rating/warnings, and a disclaimer. An example:

Title:
Author:
Word Count: 100
Characters/Work:
Adult Content/Pairing: None
Disclaimer:

Author Notes: [if applicable]

If your drabble relies on elements from LotR movie canon (as opposed to book canon), please specify that.

If you are not linking to it, put the drabble itself behind a cut tag. If you do not know how to do this, or need help with HTML formatting, check out LJ's lj-tag and HTML code sections of the FAQ.

4.) Drabble challenges: We'll be posting fortnightly challenges on the comm. You're welcome to post for any challenge at any time. If you can remember to specify in your header which challenge you're responding to, that would be fab. There is a masterlist of prompts too.

You're also welcome to post any random drabbles, too. If you need one more ideas, go to this post for the challenge, idea, and request threads. Or, to participate in other formal challenges, check our our sister community, tolkien_weekly, run by faramir_boromir and shebit.

5.) Crossposting is cool, too, by the way.

Etiquette:

The purpose of tolkien100 is to be an open forum for Tolkien-related drabbles of all kinds, and creative exchange, including drabble ideas, support, and feedback to authors is wholeheartedly encouraged. No flames, please. There are Balrogs for those.
