Laugh in Spite: "For the Last Time, Laughter", by Himring

Author : Himring
Fandom : History of Middle-earth
Rating : Teens
Warning: Character death referenced and implied
Characters : Lalwen, daughter of Finwe (Feanor's half-sister)
Disclaimer : Lalwen is Tolkien's and he named her for laughter.
Summary : Lalwen's last stand and her defiance. (Features Himring 'verse Lalwen.)

Back in Valinor, when she was named for her laughter, Lalwen had a nicer laugh, she thinks. Kinder. That stopped, when her family started tearing themselves apart.

In Beleriand, she learned to laugh again, but her laughter had an edge to it, angry, almost spiteful. There was much to be angry about.

Now her young son lies hidden, in a last desperate hope that he will be found, later, her son’s father sprawling dead close by. Love was unexpected--despite this dark hour, Lalwen regrets none of it, however.

Grimly laughing, she hoists her halberd again.

‘Have at me, orcs!’

Very nice to draw from Silmarillion for this- Lalwen also had another name, Írimë, correct?

A Silmarillion reread is so overdue.

I was also thinking about Lalaith when i read your drabble. She is also named "laughter" but she was opposite.

Poor Lalwen. As I read I thought Tolkien was a great tragedian because of touches like 'I will call you 'Laughter', to show what sort of family I am going to rip to shreds.'
