Title : Two glimpses of Gil-galad
Author : Himring
Fandom : Lord of the Rings, Unfinished Tales (with a whiff of Silmarillion)
Rating : PG
Characters : Gil-galad, Galdor (references to Elendil, Oropher)
Disclaimer : The Last Alliance is Tolkien's, but don't you wish he had told us more about it?
Spoilers : maybe for the Unfinished Tales (chapter on Galadriel and Celeborn)?
Summary : Two brief looks at Gil-galad interacting with his allies Elendil and Oropher
With Elendil:
Galdor had quickly eliminated alcohol as the cause of the speed of the bonding between his king and the new arrival. Gil-galad could put away an astonishing amount without having any of his faculties impaired. So apparently could the Numenenorean. Elendil’s pronunciation of Quenya was still textbook-perfect, more accurate than Gil-galad’s, in fact.
‘They only just met,’ whispered another member of the small group of Numenorean survivors nearby, wincing a little, as the elven king and his noble leader launched into another drinking-song.
Galdor exchanged a glance of sympathy with the stranger.
‘It appears they just really like each other!’
With Oropher:
Gil-galad had gained his experience through the necessary manoeuvring among the divisions and factions of his court. Rarely was it possible to go as far as sentencing anybody for crimes of the First Age, but neither was it possible to promote some people as their indisputable talent might have deserved, because they needed to be kept out of the public eye. Subtle soothing was the order of the day.
Oropher, he mused, had made his career by doing the opposite and refusing to compromise in any way. Doubtless he thought Gil-galad weak. He was glaring at him across the table.
A/N: Two more insta-drabbles, with small subsequent tweaks. The prompt sets were: alcohol, groups, elimination, bond; sentencing, possible, court, division
