‘I must admit, Mother, I don’t quite…. Flowers that do not fade? Leaves that remain forever golden? I know you grew up with them, as I did not.’
Celebrian caught Galadriel’s forearm daringly, giving it a tug.
‘Look, only look!’
Celebrian gestured at the burgeoning green growth of Spring.
‘Who could ask for more?’
‘Almost the same words,’ sighed Galadriel. ‘I remember…’
‘Who?’ asked Celebrian, hoping for a like-minded friend.
‘Finduilas.’

Celebrian, tottering on Galadriel’s arm, threw a last despairing glance behind. Galadriel, gritting her teeth, broke off a luxuriant green-leaved bough. Celebrian clutched it as she was lifted aboard.
A/N: The second scene is supposed to be set when Celebrian is leaving Middle-earth, having suffered a similar fate at the hands of orcs as Galadriel's niece Finduilas.

Date: 2025-05-12 02:02 am (UTC)Oooh,Finduilas and Celebrian! I'd forgotten they were cousins, that Galadriel would have known her. Celebrian's momentary hope! Galadriel's remembered grief. And... oh! I suddenly wonder, did he mirror show what might yet be with her daughter?
That last scene is so painful! Excellent.

Date: 2025-05-13 08:34 am (UTC)I suppose it depends a bit on how you see Galadriel's movements in the First Age, but it does seem likely that Galadriel would have known Finduilas, although I believe there is no hint of it in the source texts.
I read a moving fic, once, that was about Galadriel seeing her daughter's fate in the Mirror and struggling with it. But it was too long ago, now, I don't remember who it was by.
