When others referred to bloody-handed Maedhros in his hearing, later, Elros knew they meant Doriath or Sirion—and that was inarguable.
But the image it conjured in Elros's own mind was Maedhros on his knees beside Nolemir, speaking softly to him, while he and Celvandil kept on trying to staunch the relentless flow of blood from his thigh and other wounds, well past hope. It had been Elros’s own actions, reckless with rage and adolescence, that had endangered Nolemir so.
When it was over, Maedhros had got up and put his hand, still sticky with blood, comfortingly on Elros’s shoulder.
