Author: Himring
Source / Fandom: Lord of the Rings
Rating: Teens
Warnings: brief reference to the canonical Fall of Numenor
Characters: Numenoreans, Dunedain (as a group)
Disclaimer: Just a little meditation on what Tolkien seems to be hinting at.

The Numenoreans stand tall in the memories of their descendants, those that the ships carried to safety in Arnor and Gondor. They loom larger perhaps than they did even in the heyday of their power and prosperity, those ever-present ancestors. The Dunedain are in danger of being overshadowed, of allowing themselves to be dwarfed by comparison with that which no longer exists. Yet they are themselves tall, themselves kings and shipbuilders—and more than that, provided they allow themselves to grow.

If they do not cling to the past, they could even learn to value the humble and the small.

Author notes: Also for a tolkienshortfanworks challenge prompt (the line of verse that provides the title)
