All of Faramir’s life he has received empty promises .

When his mother was ill, she said that she’ll be all right but that wasn’t the case as he experienced her departure from Middle-earth way too soon.

Boromir had promised he would be back before springtime, to help with the defense of Gondor, to bring word of what his dream may have meant. But on that fateful overcast February day, both he and Denethor had heard the horn that signaled doom.

He had enough of promises that were broken. He just hoped that the King’s promise would usher in better times .
