A COMMENDATION

I wish, O my brother, I could tell you what it is to sleep.

Sleep... Rest at life’s end, a heart’s ease, this understanding that what I once beheld was but a waking dream. A Gift it is, though my children have forgotten.

It is because of this forgetting, my beloved brother, that I write. You heard the death of Andor, the cries of her children carried on the storm. An exile, my own flesh, shall come to you – he, his children, who remember.

Welcome him for my sake, brother. You and the one you love – be kind to him.

Farewell.

Ooooh, this is very lovely (and kind of chilling, considering the fates of Gil-Galad and Elendil, yes?) I always wondered whether Elrond was so adamant against his daughter's choice because he remembered that mortal brother (of course, he's more adamant in the movieverse, and there we don't know anything about his mortal brother, so I might be talking out of my ass there ...) But still, when I think of everything that he and Galadriel lost - then immortality doesn't really seem like much of a gift.

And now this comment is longer than your lovely drabble. Heh!
