Like the title says, this is where you'll come to post and find challenges, requests, ideas, and brainstorming sessions.

To issue a challenge or request, simply reply to the post in a comment with your idea(s), preferably with the topic(s) first stated in the subject line. Alternately, if you've come and been inspired, if you'd like, leave a comment in reply to a particular challenge/idea to let the person know you've answered it.

This post will be linked in the FAQ and memories as well, so access to it should be easy.

Challenge Idea: Excesses

It seems that Tolkien is just loaded with things in excess, whether it be excessive emotion, excessive weather, excesses in consumption, or just an excess of singing. So I think the topic is: excesses. Have at it, boys and girls! But nothing over 100 words...because that would be excessive.

Challenge Idea: Meetings off the page

My all-time favorite challenge was "meetings before the book", which should be modified as above in the wider scope of this community. I'd love to see anything from Melkor and Ungoliant to Gimli and Mahal, quite apart from all the slashy possibilities.

Well, there's Namesakes. Several characters are named after others (frex, Faramir Took, Faramir II, Frodo Gardner). What do they think of this?

Letters from the Dead worked quite niftily at the late lamented LOTR100; how about Letters To The Dead?

Switches. Frex, Faramir for Boromir, Glorfindel for Legolas, Eowyn for Arwen?

Unnamed Characters' POVs, perhaps for specific events. I saw a drabble challenge concerning the people of Minas Tirith as the doomed soldiers rode out to Osgiliath; One had to write from the POV of anyone *but* a named book character. How about one for Helm's Deep, or the battle of the Last Alliance, or the Scouring of the Shire?

No One's a Bad Guy in their Own Mind; drabbles concerning/from the POV of evil characters.

Getting Out of Middle-Earth. A challenge for any work of Tolkien's that isn't set in Arda.
