Author Notes:  Legolas introduces Gimli to his father.  Elvellon means 'elf-friend'.

 

‘Elvellon’

“Father?  This is Gimli.”

In the silence that follows, I ponder our friendship.  A friendship that transcends the ancient enmities between our peoples, a friendship that perplexes many.

Perhaps the first seeds were sown long ago, at Erebor.  I learned then that your folk were not the cowardly Naugrim of legend, but stout and valiant warriors. On the Quest I came to know more of you; and with knowledge came acceptance.  With acceptance came friendship, growing to the sort of friendship I have been blessed with before, never thinking to find again.

My father smiles, and bows.  “Welcome, Gimli Elvellon.”

That's for not protraying Thranduil as a psychopath! I like that Legolas's mind started to change back in the battle of the Five Armies. We tend to forget that he must have been there.

I have never portrayed Thranduil as a psychopath! You'll have to read some of my stories at storiesofarda.com - there's more there.

I think, considering Thranduil's history with dwarves, he must have been a little surprised when Legolas turned up after the War of the Ring with Gimli in tow - but would have accepted him.
