Non-challenge: Shearing Time, by Himring

Rating: Teens
Warnings: Dysfunctional marriage.
Characters: Ancalime (first Ruling Queen of Numenor)
Disclaimer: Hallacar ruining his wife's attachment to her childhood home was Tolkien's idea; this take on Ancalime's feelings is Himring's.
Always Ancalime has been at ease among sheep and green hills. She grew up among them; that was where she retreated to, as Princess Shepherdess, when she did not want to deal with court life. If a citizen of Armenelos had brought up sheep-shearing to her, the way they sometimes bring up the smell or the sound of baaing, she would have shrugged. It is the way of things. That is how wool is obtained.
It is only when her feud with Hallacar strips her of refuge and trust, that suddenly she feels herself the distress of the newly-shorn sheep.
A/N: This was written for a verse prompt; the poem was by Langston Hughes and I have used the poem's title for this drabble's title, also.

Thank you!
