Author: Himring
Source / Fandom: Lord of the Rings, Appendix B
Rating: General
Warnings: none
Characters: Pippin's descendants
Disclaimer: Tolkien says The Tale of Years was compiled at the Great Smials, from books and writings gathered by Pippin, with some additions from material collected by Merry. He says early dates in this source are often conjectural. Himring tried to imagine a part of the compilation process.
‘What’s this?’
‘Oh, an account of how Gandalf received the Ring of Fire from Cirdan! And it sounds as if the source might be Cirdan, not Gandalf?’
‘It is in Father’s hand. Did he ask Cirdan himself about it, I wonder? I do not remember him mentioning anything like that.’
‘Well, we can’t ask him anymore.’
‘When did this happen anyway?’
‘No idea!’
‘We will just have to make a guess again. Maybe a thousand years into the Third Age?’
‘I will write that down. What are we calling this, by the way?’
‘I don’t know. The Tale of Years?’

Date: 2025-09-03 12:24 pm (UTC)Sounds very funny. And right. I just see the picture of two not very old hobbits, scratching their heads and vawing pens amid piles of papers :)
Thank you for posting it in LJ!
