Title: Prayer to Varda
Author:[livejournal.com profile] juniper_maei
Word Count: 100
Characters/Work: Varda
Disclaimer: All tolkien

Author Notes:This prayer is a combination of Quenya and Sindarin with an english translation. It follows the pattern of 2,3,1 (Sindarin, Quenya, Sindarin) The translation is not literal as this would make it nonsensical. Syntax has been applied. I don't know if it's inappropriate to post it here or not.

Oh Star Queen, Star Kindler, watch over us Ever-White.
To thee I cry here beneath death-horror, watch over me, watch over me.
O Star Queen, Star Kindler; your two hands, Ever-White, lift up the stars from heaven.
Darkness swiftly pass away, watch over us, watch over us.
Day shall come again.
Hear my words. Thee I trust.

Very pretty.

Interesting combining of Sindarin and Quenya. I tend to sneak a little Quenya into my Sindarin when I can't find the correct words in the latter, but this was a complete switching between the two dialects - like writing a poem in Latin and a modern Latinate language. Very unusual.
