Author: Kortirion
Word Count: 100
Characters/Work: Aragorn: Movieverse
Adult Content/Pairing: None
Disclaimer: He spoke, I wrote, but JRR owns the stories.
Author Notes: It’s nothing you don’t know already, so no new insights I’m afraid – just something that arrived about 3am this morning.
The long years of my life have been spent in watching. I have seen too much pain, too much regret and far too many good lives lost. It is my duty to lead - what can I tell them? How do you give hope to the hopeless? They face me, with fear, with grim determination, with the dull eyes of those already resigned to death. If the Shadow should prove too much…
No. I will not admit defeat. I will fight. They will fight. Hope I am, hope I will be.
Aragorn turned; a bright flame in the darkness.
“For Frodo!”

I hope that's in your mind's eye the same as mine, but commiserate if it isn't.

Date: 2004-09-25 05:10 pm (UTC)Yeah, bin there, done that, - I only have to see him run to Boromir at Parth Galen, see the Elves approaching Helm's Deep, or hear two notes of 'Into the West' and the eyes fill, the throat tightens... oh yes.
Ahem...*clears throat* - Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it. :)

Date: 2004-09-26 06:45 pm (UTC)I really really really need to see the extended version of that scene. Just knowing about the extended version makes me see the theatrical version differently - the charge "For Frodo" isn't to give him time, but because he's already dead, and all hope is gone. All they can do is honour his sacrifice with their own. The look in Aragorn's eyes is spell-binding - ferocious but resigned at the same time. He has no intention of surviving this fight. What's the point in surviving when all is lost?
Yep, I need to see the extended scene.
You captured Aragorn's voice and thoughts perfectly. Resignation and determination bound up together, and always the need to lead - if he doesn't, who will?

I think at that point he is the consumate leader, he has very real doubts, but knows his only path is to advance even if it means certain death.
Yes, I also can't wait for December, when the real film comes out - though I have heard it rumoured there will be even more extended additions to come, as New Line have every intention of milking the cow of PJ's extra footage for all they get out of it!

Date: 2004-09-28 01:24 am (UTC)I actually found the new comm while trying to find out what had happened to the old one. I was going to the ljs of all you regulars to find a mention of lotr100 and instead found a mention of this place. So I followed the trail.
Even though Aragorn doesn't want to lead or rule, it's so ingrained into him that he just can't help being the perfect leader.
I was thinking about Aragorn's genealogy late one night recently and suddenly realised how impressive the roll call f his ancestors is. He's decended from the High King of the Teleri (Thingol), the High King of the Noldor (Finwe) - through other such luminaries as Turgon, who was impressive in his own right - several lords and kings of the Edain (Huor, Barahir et al) and of course a Maia (Melian). That's rther impressive ancestry for a mere 'Man', wouldn't you say.
Elrond shares that ancestry, of course, and by rights should be the High King of all the Noldor, Sindar and Nandor, being the last living male decendant of Elwe and Finwe.
Isn't genealogy fun?

Though Elrond as High King sort of rates drabbling thoughts - mmmm, we'll see!

Date: 2004-09-29 11:17 am (UTC)Galadriel an Celeborn are about second cousins once removed, so just far enough away that they could marry.
The non-Thingol branch of Elrond's family are decended from Galadriel's grand daddy, and Celeborn is Thingol great nephew, making him Elrond's distant cousin.
Thranduil doesn't appear to be any relation to any of them though, so Legsy isn't part of the big happy family.
Thranduil calls himself a king, whaen all he rules is a bunch of wood elves in Rhovanion. Elrond, who calls himself only a 'lord', could claim kingship over all the Eldar in Middle Earth.
