While Gimli repaired the long-neglected wall, the others set the herbs, brought from Minas Tirith, in the soft earth.

Legolas lifted a blue-flowered iris from its clay pot. “My people call these lothdunedan, or ‘Westmanflower’ in Common Speech.”

Eowyn looked up from her work. “Why is that?”

“Because their heads are so hairy.”

“Indeed?” Faramir rubbed his clean-shaven chin. “Nanny used to call those ‘Riders of Rohan’ because they were whiskered and carried green swords.”

Eowyn raised an eyebrow. “In the Mark, they're known as ‘Dwarves Beards.’”

Trowel in hand, Gimli peered at the flower. “Best make that ‘Babies’ Beards.’”
