Spoilers/Warnings : Reference to death of old age
Summary: Valandil and his son Eldacar, shortly before Valacar's death
Because Valandil was a martyr to sciatica that day, Eldacar had to fetch it for him from its box at the top of the wardrobe: the Elendilmir, shining white on its bed of red velvet.
‘It is to become the Star of the North Kingdom,’ said Valandil. ‘Yours soon!’
‘Not yet!’ protested Eldacar.
‘Not quite yet, but I’m almost ready to go!’
Despite the pain in his hip and back, Valandil seemed content as he gazed out of the window onto the Vale of Imladris, peaceful and glorious in the sunset.
‘I always wanted to come back here, for this.’
A/N: I think it might have taken a while for the Elendilmir to become firmly associated with the North Kingdom. Valandil was, after all, the first to be only king of Arnor from the beginning and to remain so, and the previous arrangements may not have seemed permanent at first.
