Title : Return after the Dagor Bragollach
Author : Himring
Fandom/Source : Silmarillion
Rating : PG13
Characters : Caranthir, son of Feanor
Disclaimer : The ruin of Thargelion in the Battle of Sudden Flame is canonical and by Tolkien. Caranthir's feelings about it weren't really mentioned, until I did so.
Spoilers/Warnings : see "ruin of Thargelion" and "Battle of Sudden Flame". See also: Glaurung, Father of Dragons (the reason why I decided to cross-post this here after all, although it is not entirely self-contained; there is reference to an OFC.)
Summary: After his flight south after a lost battle, Caranthir returns to the area he used to rule.

The north wind hissed spitefully in his ears as he made his way carefully over the rough, broken ground, once-familiar meadows and fields churned to mud where orcs had clashed with the few remaining defenders before Glaurung had come, overthrown all and poisoned everything in his path.

He waved his companions back and climbed the final hill alone to gaze on what the enemy had left of Lake Helevorn. Briefly his eyes dimmed; then rage overtook him and he shouted out against the sky, but immediately fear gripped him by the throat. What had become of her, underneath all that?

A/N: "Her" in the last line is the Lady of Lake Helevorn, an OFC of mine. This was written for the SWG's insta-drabbling session for the prompts "clash, wind, rough, dim". It wasn't until I saw fredbassett's Glaurung drabble that I realized it sort of fits the "Dragon's Ire" challenge, although it was not written with the challenge in mind.

This is great! It's works absolutely fine as a standalone, and it's very powerful!

Do you mind if I tag for the challenge, as it doesn't have to have been specifically written for it. I;ll also do a tag for Caranthir.
