As he stepped from the cool night air into the warm, smoke-filled tavern the drinkers watched him warily, afraid. They rarely saw his kind this far west, but his urgent errand brought him to the lands of Men.
“I seek word of a Ranger, you know him as Strider,” the golden warrior said.
Their hostility battered him. He drew back his hood, let the fire glint on his hair, fill his blue eyes with warmth.
The innkeeper finally whispered, “He went into the wild, with four Hobbits, three days ago.”
The Balrog Slayer nodded and left the humans in peace.
